The House of Life

In the many conscious hours
Of our lives,
We can only hope
They bring peace, solace
To our souls.

Some spend those precious hours
In fear, in loathing
Of the many hours
They have wasted
With hate, jealousy, greed.

In the sum of it all
Each of us find time
Has been wasted,
Wishing for a different life.
When all we had to do was change.

Changing ones life
Is difficult, hard to do.
Old habits creep in
They are comfortable,
Like an old pair of shoes.

Changing lets us breathe
Fresh air, a new perspective.
If only we take a few hours
To stop, look at the life we live.
Then change comes easily.

If we want it to come at all.
Usually we are stubborn
Regarding change.
In many ways we are all
Like little kids, now aren't we?

AS THE MORNING STAR- FOR ALL MY CHILDRAN

As the morning star
A bright planet seen in the the East before sunrise
A light in the darkness
At this moment
In my life
You are each my stars

You are my song of success
You my shining beautiful
Morning stars of children
Are everything I always knew
Could be the embodiment of our love
For one another

For our God and the universe
You each are the shining stars in my heavens
My spotlight my
On Stage exhilaration
Living breathing
Flesh
Face value of our complete inner beings

Joined forever
Others are waiting in the wings
Oh what a glorious day
When we join
All of us
In mature unselfish

Out going communion
To one another
To the world
We shall light up the heavens
Until the
 Son rises anew

SONGBIRDS

Early in  the morning
Sitting on the porch,
Listening to songbirds calling.
They answer each other
Chirping back and forth.

The view of garden lovely
Just at the rising of the Son,
I know Fanny Crosby
Would be delighted, though blind.
Said she could see every one.

I await with anticipation
For others to come
Enjoy my "good morning",
With coffee
"Have some".

"The Dayspring sunrise on high
Has visited thus,
Giving light
To the darkness".               Luke 1:78-79
He'll come back for us!

Surrounded as I am
Each day with such love.
By my husband, children,
All my friends
That I love.

How could I ever be
Unhappy at all,
Even with these injuries
From a terrible fall?

God's healing love
Surrounds me
Each day.
With "Blessed Assurance"
In His wondrous way.

So here
On vacation
Or even at home,
The love of my family
Blesses me as I roam.

Christmas Joys

Christmas comes but once a year
Bringing joy, and toys.
Presents all wrapped under the tree
For good little girls and boys.

My heart delights in all the signs
Of Christmas on the way.
Sometimes I wish that it would come
And then all year would stay!

The food is luscious to our lips.
The presents best of all.
The very best present I believe
Is Jesus' birth in a humble stall.

My heart overflows with expectation
As I await the day.
Yes, I believe in santa Claus
Who comes upon his sleigh.

Believing is such an important part
Of every Christmas play.
That I feel sorry for the ones
Without faith upon this day!

Beki At Two

You tickle my fancy!
You clown doll.
You remind me so much of me
When I was little.

Stay free, uninhibited, charming, always.
I love your spirit of fun,
Good times.
Let's celebrate you together.

Backward

Oh time in your flight
Make me a child again
Just for  tonight!

America's Wailing Wall

We have a living wailing wall
In America today.
It lives, it breaths
And cries out,
Loudly,
With the spirits who live inside!
The men who gave their lives in Nam
To finally end the curse of war.
A reminder of the futility
Suffered by men once more.
"When will it end?", we said again,
As we had said before.
Unlike Jesus, once for all,
Was Viet Nam really
The last great war?
Or will that threat return again
For man's final great Amen?

Agape Love

If I ever have another husband,
Gosh, I hope I don't,
Will he take walks with me
To laugh, to talk about things important to me?
Watch a sunset,
Listen to a symphony, or country music
With me by his side, holding my hand?
Enjoy ice cream on apple pie
Without counting calories?
Will he walk with patient adoration without rushing
Through museums or art galleries?
Go barefoot in the sand
To listen to the waves crashing against the land?
Enjoy being alone with me?
Holding my hand to protect me?
When I hold his hand
Will I feel the love, presence of God
In our lives.....quietly?
Will he love me, cherish me,
Smile at me so peacefully, so lovingly
As Don does?
I want our love story to continue
For many more years.
I doubt that Romeo and Juliet
Ever had the same feelings
Or shared the vicissitudes and crisis
That we have overcome.
If they had then they would
Never, no not ever
Want to die
To leave
The world
Vacant
Of such agape love!

Abstraction

So many people are puzzled
By abstract paintings
You see
Attempting to explain them
Seems to have been left to me

Take a simple example
Perhaps a family
One stroke is the family
One more could be a tree

Use imagination
When looking for delight
It jumps right out it catches you
When you study it just right

You'll see horses, people, fantasy
They come alive in painting strokes
So keep looking you'll enjoy it
Not just sophisticated but there for common folks

Computer Thinking

When I sit at my computer
Thinking about the world.  I question if
Diogenese dreamed of miracles
Today's scientists have unfurled?

He searched his world with lantern
Trying to find the truth.
Sometimes I sit and wonder
Why didn't he find it in his youth?

People might be more educated
Today than in his day.
But many miss the most important
Basic truths of life I say.

They know about astrology
Men on the moon is more than just a wish.
Medical marvels are performed each day.
Life can begin in a Petri dish!

But when it comes to average men
Do they really understand?
God is the source of all life
It never came from man.

Spread The Word

Spread the word, spread the word!
Tell all men what you have heard.
Let them know that God loves them,
And that you love them, too!

Hold their hands, serve their needs.
Tell them how our Savior bleeds
When they do not love each other as they should.

Spread the word, spread the word!
Tell the children what you know.
Let them feel the love in your arms,
And protect them from all harm.
Cradle them, nurture them
So that they can nurture too.
Teach them how to love each other
As you do.

Spread the word, spread the word!
Tell the leaders of His word.
Let them hear how you feel
So they can appeal
For justice in the land.
And for truth to take a stand.
So that they can be honest in their word.

Ode To Peanut Butter

You tanned, scrumptious lover!
You beckon me with promises of satisfaction,
An then,
Cruel lover...
What betrayal
When I step upon the scale!

Shining Armor

What ever happened to the knight?
What ever happened to the shining armor?
What ever happened  to  these?
Chivalry used to be an every day word.
What of opening doors, standing when
A lovely princess left the table?
Opening chariot doors, car doors or any door?
What happened to those gracious manners?
Spreading cloaks in the mud for a fair damsel
Just to please her?
Did the Betty Fridan syndrome of women's lib
Ruin it for us all?

The thoughtful, gracious, charming ways of a prince charming
Were heart winning!
Ladies never used foul language, spit in the street,
Or for that matter spread their legs in photographs
Years ago.
I'm not with it you say?
Oh, yes I am!
I get these things done for me because
I expect them from a gentleman.
Oh, young women, don't sell yourselves short.
Be refined.  Be dignified.  Be cultured.
It is worth every effort, you will see.
Set the example for your friends.  Become a princess.
Once in awhile I find the prince of a man out there,
However, unfortunately too seldom.
I miss him!
We all need a prince in our lives.

ON The Night When Our Savior Was Born (this is a song)

The world was dark, people felt despair
Till that wondrous night when God heard their prayer.
He sent His son as a human child
On the night when our Savior was born.

Heaven and earth breathed a holy sigh
On the night when Gods word became new life.
The earth stood still and all men rejoiced
On  the night when our Savior was born.

Light came into the world.
Hope blossomed in our hearts.
Love came into the world
To bring us new life.
On the night when our Savior was born.

Now the whole world celebrates this day.
God has answered our prayers in a special way.
Jesus is present to  this day.
From the night when our Savior was born.

Love came into the world.
Joy came into our hearts.
Peace came into the world.
When Jesus was born.
Light came into the world.
Hope blossomed in our hearts.
Love came into the world.
On the night when our Savior was born!

I Like To Snuggle In Covers On A Rainy Day

I like to mound the pillows up
And sink into them
Until they fluff up around my ears.
I like to hear the rain on the windows and the roof
Especially a tin roof.

On a rainy day
Every thing is clean.
Clean and washed to start over.
Like the first day of a new man.

Puddles reflect trees, make them upside down
Like my life
Till it begins anew on a rainy day.
Then everything gets washed.
I can see straight
And start over....

Thank you God for rainy days.
There must have been a million new starts for me!
Like the puddles----I hope I grew.
Like the trees--------I hope I got stronger, deeper roots.
Like the skies--------I cried.
I  tried.....
Give me more rainy days Lord.

The Sacred Presence

At communion
Gazing upon the Divine Presence
I am overcome

At the privilege
Of being in His Presence!

Like the first jump kick
(though womb encased)
Of the Baptist.

De Colores Delirious

We jumped for joy,
Our smiles were wide.
Had a wonderful time.
The Spirit was deep inside.

We shared our love
It lifted us out of our seat.
To change our lives.
The lives of those we meet.

We were consumed with joy
Trinity in our midst.
Love you could feel.
An event not to be missed.

We came home from the conference
Walking on air!
People noticed the difference.
They knew we'd never despair.

Open your heart
To the spirit of God.
He's all around you
Even the road you trod.

LISTEN!

Listen!
When the Spirit stirs your heart.
Listen!
He has been there from the start.
Listen!

In the rustling of the leaves.
In the cooling summer breeze.
In the sunset
And the sunrise.
Listen!

He will soothe your aching soul.
Listen!
He will be there to console.
He'll be there to make you whole.
Listen!

When you're troubled
Breathe His fragrance in.
Stop!
You will feel Him there within.
L i s t e n!

Dyslexia

I miss the Lilacs in Chicago.
They don't grow here at all.
Lavender perfumed air
Heavenly scented the air everywhere.

Even closed doors did not
Keep that luscious scent out.
When I was little I took
Piano lessons from a man very stout.

His name was Mr. Leonard Blair.
Walking to my house
He'd play imaginary piano
With his fingers in the air!

Mother fired Mr. Leonard Blair
Thinking him quite creepy.
At the piano his eyes would close..
I  think he was very sleepy.

Even though he fell asleep
His genius expertise
Certainly was outstanding.
He'd snore himself awake then sneeze.

A teacher snoring by my side
Puzzled me almost to vexia
Because you see I really had
A bad case of dyslexia.

I played strange upside down sounds
To me all crazy sounding notes.
All around would hold their ears.
Slamming windows were their votes.

Those lessons did me well I think.
Enjoy playing to this day.
Only play now for myself you see.
Play saying, "NO, DO IT THE OTHER WAY!"

When I do play my piano,
I miss the aroma of Lilacs in the air.
When in Chicago it wafted into my room.
Inhaling I'd close my eyes, and so did Mr. Blair.

Bobbin

Since my darling son died
I've wept many tears.
I miss his sweet smile;
It's been almost four years.

He played the drums
In his band don't you know.
Lived a lot on the road
Oh, I miss him so!

Now he silently sleeps
In the arms of the Lord.
When he died all alone my mothers heart
Was pierced with a sword.

As a toddler I always called him "bobbin".
Always jumping, hopping, running around.
Now that he's gone I spend my time
Looking at all the pictures I've found.

Oh, my precious boy
I pray daily for you.
Now you are free
In the heavenly view.

I pray for your joy
From suffering and pain.
I look for the day
We're united again.

Don and I say our prayers,
Always pray for your joy.
You always will be
Our sweet wonderful boy!

Amazing Adventures

Go chasing after rainbows
Also butterflies in the sky.
If beauty is what you seek
They satisfy the eye.

Once we saw a double one
Rainbows I'm speaking of.
Then low flying butterflies
Filled the sky above.

Amazingly in Israel
In the upper room
As we stood there praying
A white dove appeared from out the gloom.

Darkened hallways were gloomy
On that rainy day.
We hurried to our busses
But wished that we could stay.

We gathered in the chapel
In Nazareth one day.
For mass around the altar
Our Jewish guide stayed to pray.

He prayed with us each time we stopped.
A holy man was he.
His name was Sheptai, he was nice.
Said "Not to vorrey",  then said "See!"

In Canna we repeated
Our holy wedding vow.
Next we found a small cafe
Which had delicious chow.

Our trip  to Italy was exciting.
Such grandeur made us awed.
We sang in eight part harmony.
Giving glory to our God.

The exquisite art in Italy
Took our breath away.
Yet Israel's simplicity
Really made our day.

To think we walked the vary streets
Our Blessed Lord had trod!
Was almost more than we could stand
When bowing t o our Lord.

Walking the Via Della Rosa,
Jesus suffered so for us.
Thinking about our Savior,
Teary eyed we got back on the bus.

We will never forget those trips we took.
We have pictures which we bought.
We reminisce when viewing them
Bringing rich memories to thought.

A Love Like Yours

Let me see with eyes like Yours
Let me hear with ears like Yours
Let me cry with tears like Yours
So I can love completely

Let me walk where You have walked
Let me talk as You have talked
Teach me to look inside everyone
And find Your love completely

Through my friends and family here
I can feel Your presence near
You will take away all fear
So I can love completely

People look for love each day
Any place in any way
If they'd only look for You
They'd find true love completely

Your example led the way
How to live and what to say
Help us Lord in every way
To live your love completely.

Tycoons

They prance around
Like gods
These men.

The inner sanctum
Doors locked tight
Against intrusion.

Their bastion does not
Let anything out
For they are trapped inside.

Trapped by
Their own greed
Empty inside!

The sorrow is....
They
     Know it!

The Tunnel

I've traveled that tunnel of death.
Never could I imagine the warmth,
Deep overwhelming love,
Soul moving pleasure I experienced
Directly from the heart of God.

He wrapped me in
His Divine arms,
Held me more tightly, lovingly
Than any mother ever held
Her beloved child.

Possessed me entirely.
Such love does not exist on earth.
Divine not human.
A deep sigh escaped my lungs.
It made my closed eyes tear.

I realized that I have been loved much
All of my life
By husband, children, family, friends.
Never have I experienced
Having such golden love enfold me before!

The Music Box

Trying to nap I was laying
Down upon the couch.
My music box was playing
A melody so sweet.
Asleep and snoring gently
My kitty at my feet.
Black and white he is
A tuxedo cat so neat.

On the recliner chair was my spouse.
I think he's so sweet, so handsome!
Not wishing to awaken him,
I was quiet as a mouse.
I  tiptoed in behind him,
And touched him on t he arm.
Jumping up so suddenly
He feared he was in harm.

"Now our dinner guests
Are coming soon
So wake up Donald dear".
We laughed together as he
Realized there was nothing more to  fear.
We had a lovely party with many of our friends.
They danced, they sang, told jokes, and laughed
Till someone was in tears.

We've had many happy parties
With family, friends so dear.
As passing time takes them away
We wish that they were near.
Forward looking to the time
When all of us can be
Together with our Father
In that land so heavenly!

March 13, 1965----Selma, Alabama

Heartbroken I stand and face mankind.
This week the devil held us in his hand!
We did not squirm, neither revile....
The familiar hand held no aversion for too many.
Most were not moved enough to even pray.

100 years ago  the hope for the future was bright...
It was trampled on Selma's bridge tonight!

They fled in fright, their own brothers in command
Leading the hideous attack.
Bloody!  Dazed!  Unable to see!
Please dear God have mercy on me.

Many have suffered, many will die.
But the apathy of you and I
Is what spurs brutality, injustice, and hate.
What key to unlock prejudice's gate?

Heartbroken before mankind I stand.
I might as well hold a club in my hand.
Our "but what can I do?" holds no strength anymore...
We've said it too many times before.

The path to peace
Perhaps it not be in His plan?
For generations to behold Him in every man.
But pray God we can make a definite start for humanity
By  teaching our children true Christianity.

A MAN OF GRACE by Mary L. Zwissler Watt

A man of grace
Now more than ever
Seems it rich to die!

Let us bury the
Great Knight
A man of Almighty God

Who lived his life
By God's council.
We know one thing only

His home a holy place.
His heart one of purity.
A man of grace.

Courageous, strong of purpose.
Unrelenting in the
Face of danger!

A lover of life with
Discernment, ambition
Love of family and friends.

We shall never forget
Him because of these
Character traits.

Especially we remember
His gentleness with children,
And animals.  True model to others!

The Music Of My Life by Mary L. Zwissler Watt

"Music expresses that which
Cannot be put into words
But yet
Cannot remain unsaid!"

In my life
Music has played
Such an incredible
Part.  It has enriched

My every moment
Word, thought
My very being
Forming my life's

Goals, ambitions,
Choices, decisions.
It enriches my life
Every moment

Of every day
To the point
That I live and
Breathe music!

VIVA LA PAPA!

Viva la papa! Americans cried
As the pope mobile
Came down the streets.
Viva la papa! over and over
As tears ran down their cheeks.
Cheers rang out in respectful shrieks.

Benedict the XVI HAS ARRIVED
IN WASHINGTON, D.C. HOORAY!
He is honored in a respectful way
By the faithful during his short stay.
Benedict is the pope of hope.
He brings God's message for today.
To Christians, Jews, Muslims with hands held high.
He blesses all with one huge scope.

We are so privileged
Here in  the U.S.A
To have God's ambassador of peace
Bring a message of  hope for today.
We thank God for
His blessing of peace.
With turbulence on every side
We all pray for wars forever to cease.

What a Lennon desire
In our world todya
We hate to see
Benedict go away.
He is saying mass in New Yark city
Before he must leave and go away.
He's leaving on Sunday
In Vatican City to stay.

Lost Love

Oh, I fell in love at a tender age,
My love was warm and free.
Laughing, full bosomed,
Fair in the sun,
A bonnie lassie she!

I long for her
Now to embrace,
Love overpowers me.
Constantly vivid in memory,
My love she is the sea.
